“New Friends” Exhibit Opening A Smashing Success!

If I had to sum up the opening reception for our first exhibit, “New Friends” ,  that word would be “WOW”!

More than 100 people attended the kick-off event for the show of art dolls by Adele Elliott, which was held on Thursday, february 2, at Renee Reedy Studio (101 5th Street South | Columbus, MS; below Cafe on Main).

Guests enjoyed sandwiches, cookies, and chips provided by Cafe Aromas.  Mitchell Distributing hooked us up with some of the Shock Top series of craft beers.  Sheri Lipsey contributed some delicious wine.  And, since it is Carnival season, the gallery provided king cake!  Many thanks to all of our sponsors for partnering with us!

If all of the cool people in attendance, as well as the food and wine, weren’t enough, we also sold EIGHT pieces of art!  Whoo-hoo!

Want to see some great photos of the evening’s festivities? Then, click here.  Our thanks to Renee, Will, and Katie for these cool pics!

Words & Music A Smashing Success!

Our most recent offering of Words & Music: An Evening of Spoken Words and Songs, which was held on Friday, January 13, 2012, at Cafe Aromas, was a big hit!

A standing- room-only crowd enjoyed the open mic night performances by five musicians and three poets.  The audience was entertained by musicians Larry Priest, Shane Tubbs, Alex Hinton, Aidan Dunkelurg, and Tom Henderson.  Poets were Kendall Dunkelburg, Adele Elliott, and Elizabeth Simpson.

Jill Williams of Cafe Aromas, which served as the host venue for the event, stated “What a great evening!”

The event featured a diverse array of musical genres, such as classical, country, rock & roll, and Christian.  Poets expounded on a variety of topics, with one poet even reciting works that she said were “composed by my dogs”.

Kudos to all of the performers for sharing their talents with us and for having the courage to get up in front of an audience.  Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Cafe Aromas for hosting the event, and to local musician and all-around great guy, Larry Priest, for providing the sound system.  Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank all of the members of the community who came out in support of the event.  We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!

The next Words  & Music will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Cafe Aromas (404 Main Street | Columbus, MS  39701), at 7pm.  We hope to see you there!
